Poppy Flowers: Making Wedding Florals Accessible

Poppy Flowers is a distinctive approach to wedding florals, because it is a full service florist for everyone in the US, not just Rhode Island. In fact, it’s the nation’s largest full-service floral studio specifically for weddings and events. Since opening their doors in 2019, Poppy has already done over 1,000 weddings, and are famed for their accessibility.

Founded my Cameron Hardesty, Poppy began from the most earnest place—a florist trying to plan her own wedding, and struggling with the options out there. Poppy boasts a totally customisable experience, no matter where you are. The kicker is that Poppy is also very cost-friendly, making this essential detail of your day a bit less of a headache. So how does that work?

Poppy has streamlined the process for couples choosing their florals in collaboration with local designers. All you have to do is sign up, choose your flowers (and yes, you can get help with this step from a professional if you don’t know exactly what you want), get paired with a local designers, and then voila! Poppy handles the logistics, and you’re all done!

While this approach isn’t maybe for everyone, it completely changes the game when it comes to wedding florals, making it a lot simpler and a lot easier. And no matter if you’re in Oregon, Texas, Alabama, or Maine, they’ve got you covered wherever your wedding day may be.

Shade Studio: The Ideal Blend of Sustainability and an Aesthetic Eye

Shade Studio, one of my personal favourites, is a Block Island-based studio founded by Ayla Shade. Put into her own words, Shade Studio is ‘the intersection of regenerative agriculture, responsible land stewardship, production farming and seasonally inspired floral design.’ After studying ecology, permaculture, farming ethics, biodiversity, and a long list of related subjects, Ayla has built a beautiful flower farm that is environmentally responsible, and absolutely not lacking in beautiful design.

Using locally grown florals, Ayla’s eye for the exquisite details stands out as one of Rhode Island’s top vendors, mixing creativity, personalisation, natural elements, and stunning pops of colour in such a masterful way. She’s pretty much a one-woman show with a very small staff working alongside her, making each wedding she takes on, the start of a great relationship between her and her couples. I really admire her approach, also because I emulate this same intention with my own clients too.

Shade Studio proves that you don’t have to sacrifice beauty for responsibility—a concept that can often be overlooked when planning a wedding. Not to mention that Block Island is a buzzing hub for weddings in the summer, and she knows the ins and outs of the area like no one else. If you’re having your wedding on Block Island, she’s definitely my choice for top of the list!

Choosing the right florist is a crucial part of planning your dream wedding. Whether you're drawn to the luxurious elegance, nature-inspired creativity, romantic whimsy, modern innovation, or artistic bespoke designs, Rhode Island has a wealth of talented florists to suit your style and preferences, and this is by no means an exhaustive list! Each of these florists brings something unique to the table (literally), ensuring that your wedding day is beautifully adorned with flowers that reflect your love story and vision.
