Getting Ready:

As the big day drew near, Mel and Josh cozied up in the charming cottage at Crescent Pond Weddings, setting the scene for their wedding-day prep. Picture this: Josh, our dapper groom, stepping into the spotlight in a jaw-dropping vintage Hugo Boss suit straight out of the '80s. Talk about classic meets cool! Josh sourced his suit from a local vintage dealer based in South County, RI who not only had the perfect eye for the aesthetic of their wedding day, but also magically found this designer suit that fit Josh perfectly. I usually don’t get nerdy about suits, but this one was stunning.

Meanwhile, Mel was all about embracing the sheer romance of the moment as she dazzled and twirled in the breathtaking bridal suite upstairs. Word on the street? It's actually rated as one of New England's most magical bedrooms, and trust me, it definitely lives up to the hype! Think white canopies blowing in the wind, views of the ocean and ponds from every window, and the most intentionally decorated cottage-core space. Oh, and here's the cherry on top – from the suite, Mel could peer out over the ceremony space below, where her love story was about to soar to new heights. Can you say swoon-worthy?

The Ceremony:

With the people who mattered most at their side, Mel and Josh took center stage for a sweet-and-intimate ceremony set right along the breathtaking pond on the venue's estate. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the water and glimpses of the nearby beach, they exchanged their heartfelt vows under a dreamy driftwood altar that was handcrafted with love. Sigh. The magic and love in the air were palpable! As they spoke from their hearts, their words mingled with the gentle breeze, echoing the harmonious union of their souls. And when those rings slipped onto their fingers, sealing their commitment, you could practically feel the entire island light up with joy. I personally love the simplicity and authenticity of weddings like this: at the end of the day it isn’t about frills, it isn’t about pomp and circumstance, it’s about saying yes to the person you love.

Extended Couples Portrait Session:

Post-ceremony, Mel and Josh kicked off an extended couples portrait session, bringing their love to life against the stunning backdrop of Block Island. As a photographer, this was amazing! I, of course, love having as much time as possible with my couples. Capturing a relationship so close-up, just two-on-one is quite literally the best part of my job description, and getting this extra time to really document these two was irreplaceable. First up – they radiated love and happiness against the backdrop of the jaw-dropping property at Crescent Pond Weddings. Think rustic barn with an editorial twist…. But here's where the magic truly hit its peak: a drool-worthy horseback ride right along the beach, a breathtaking journey through the island's meadows, and an awe-inspiring visit to the legendary bluffs that offered up unparalleled ocean views. Can we just say – this is what dreams are made of!

The Charms of Block Island:

Block Island, nestled just off the coast of Rhode Island, is a slice of paradise that's totally built for romance and adventure. From its pristine beaches to its lush meadows and jaw-dropping bluffs, this hidden gem is where Mother Nature truly struts her stuff! How about a visit to the iconic Southeast Lighthouse, standing tall against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, for a slice of island history and some epic photo ops? And don't even get me started on the legend-shrouded Mohegan Bluffs – every inch a breathtaking ode to nature's grandeur and Block Island's timeless allure. But Block Island is a lot more than the epic and famous spots: the whole island offers so many gorgeous hidden spots that are off the tourist map, like the secret freshwater ponds hidden in the trees, the rocky, cliffside beaches that only locals know about, and the publicly owned meadows with those picture-perfect stone fences. Oh, and did I mention The Oar, a waterfront restaurant that's all about good vibes, tropical drinks, and epic sunset views, along with Ballard's Beach Resort, the ultimate hotspot for relaxation? From enchanting vistas to local gems, Block Island's got that perfect mix of magic and wonder.

One of the things that made Mel and Josh's wedding day so utterly special was the sheer sense of joy that permeated every moment. From the first whispers of the "I do's" to the final strains of the music, their affection for each other and the world around them was evident in every gesture, gaze, and laugh. It was apropos that their love of travel and adventure played a key role in their wedding planning. Block Island, a hidden treasure tucked away just a short ferry ride from Rhode Island, captured their imaginations with its picturesque landscapes, historic lighthouses, and quirky local flavors.

But while the island's charms served as an idyllic backdrop for their celebration, it was Mel and Josh's personalities and passions that infused the day with its true magic. Josh's affinity for vintage fashion, for instance, was on full display at the wedding, not just through his retro suit but also the little touches that were woven throughout the day. Meanwhile, Mel's radiant smile and zest for life were contagious, warmly welcoming everyone into the festivities and ensuring that every guest felt a part of the celebration.

And then, of course, there were the horses. Mel and Josh's love for riding horses together served as a creative and fun component of the wedding day. It was the perfect way to incorporate one of their passions into their day and make their celebration uniquely their own.

What made Mel and Josh's wedding day so remarkable was that it was a reflection of who they are as a couple and the love that they share. Their wedding was not limited by conventions or expectations; instead, it was a beautiful and authentic expression of their personalities. They crafted their wedding to their tastes and interests, and the result was a weekend to remember for everyone involved.

Summing Up

Mel and Josh's unforgettable indie-western wedding on Block Island was a testament to love, creativity, and individuality. With their shared love of travel and nature, they crafted a wedding day that seamlessly blended their personalities with the picturesque island surroundings. From the intimate ceremony by the pond to the breathtaking horseback ride on the beach and along the island's meadows, every moment was a celebration of their shared passions and unique love story. And by embracing their individuality, they created a wedding day that was truly one-of-a-kind. As you plan your own wedding day, remember to infuse it with your own personalities and passions – it's those special touches that will make it a day to remember for years to come.
